For over four long years, Deisy lived alone in the Spanish countryside — unseen, unwanted, and utterly terrified of humans. She survived by hiding, always on alert, raising litter after litter in the shadows. But her quiet world came crashing down when locals discovered her pups, capturing them and using them to lure her into a trap. Her desperation to save her babies led her right into human hands — hands she had every reason to fear.

Deisy was meant to find a new life in England, but her trauma ran too deep. The world was too loud, too frightening. Her stay lasted only a short while before she was sent back to our rescue in Spain… back to the only place where she could feel somewhat safe. She returned defeated, heartbroken, and shut down — a ghost of a dog who didn’t believe in kindness anymore.

But she does trust Flint. Her kennel mate. Her shadow. Her strength.

It is through Flint’s eyes that Deisy has begun to see us — to see that not all people hurt. With him beside her, she’s taken the tiniest steps toward hope. She watches him nuzzle into our hands, and sometimes, just sometimes, she inches closer too. She has found love not in our arms yet, but in the quiet presence of another dog who loves her, and through him, we are learning how to love her gently, patiently, endlessly.

When she arrived back, Deisy was thin and broken. Her mouth was full of painful ulcers, and she was diagnosed with leishmaniasis, a chronic condition she now manages with one simple tablet a day. She’s no longer in pain. She’s eating well. And — most importantly — she’s happier than she’s ever been since she was captured.

But Deisy may never be adoptable. Not in the traditional sense. She needs someone extraordinary if she’s ever to leave our side — someone with deep experience, infinite patience, and the rare kind of love that expects nothing in return.

Until then — and perhaps forever — this is Deisy’s home. But we cannot do this without you.
