💙 Thor: The Confident Search Dog Who Found His Heart

Hi, my name is Thor, and I’m a handsome, three-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer. I’m a big, strong lad, but don’t let my size fool you – I am a truly cuddly softie at heart, full of love and confidence, and I simply adore people🫶

I am eager to learn, eager to please, and I’m just looking for the right understanding family to help me fulfil my true potential.

💔 My Story So Far…

My journey hasn’t been the most straightforward. I was initially trained for a career as a search dog in the private sector. Unfortunately, I was deemed not quite suited for the job, and sadly, I was facing a serious risk of being put to sleep (PTS).

Thankfully, my wonderful rescuers stepped in just in time. They didn’t care about my failed career.. they just wanted to help find a family that cared for me for a change instead and recognised the lovely, trainable, and loving dog that I am. Now, I am safe and sound in their temporary care, hoping to find my furever family.

I also spent about two years living in kennels, so I’m still happily discovering what a real home feels like. I’m adjusting well, and I’m very much looking forward to a life on a comfy sofa.

✨ The Real Me: A Big Lad with a Big Heart

I may have some quirks that need managing, but I’m a genuinely lovely dog who just needs the right setup to thrive. I’m a big softie, and I’m highly motivated by both toys and food, which makes me incredibly trainable.

Confidence and Cuddles: My favourite thing is people! I am very people-orientated and confident in myself. I love to be close to you and will reward my hooman with endless affection and cuddles.

Eager to Learn: I’m keen to please and soak up any training you offer. I’m ready to embrace all the rules of being a cherished family member.

Clean and Tidy: Though I haven’t been in a home setting yet, I am clean in my kennel. My rescuers are confident that I will pick up house-training very quickly once I’m in a stable environment.

🏡 What I Need to Thrive

I’m a wonderful boy, but I do need an understanding family who is willing to help me with a few specific requirements.

An Adults-Only Home (or Dog-Savvy Teens): While I am fine with older, dog-savvy children who understand boundaries, because I can resource guard my food and favourite toys around other dogs, my rescuers feel it’s safest that I am not left unsupervised with children. A home with older teenagers or just adults would be ideal.

A Thoughtful Introduction Process: I am dog selective, meaning I need gentle introductions. I have happily joined group walks and have a few Spaniel friends, but I do resource guard toys and food from other dogs (never from people). Therefore, my rescuers are not sure if I can live with another dog, but if you have a dog-savvy companion and are willing to manage my guarding and introduce us properly, it might work.

Patience and Structure: As I’m only just finding my feet in a home-type setting, I need a family that can offer me the patience, structure, and ongoing training I need to become the best boy I can be.

I am a sweetheart and I am ready to be your most loyal, devoted companion. I promise to fill your life with love and big, happy tail wags.
