🐾 Promise: The Brave Soul Who Refused to Give Up 💙

My Name is Promise…

I am only three years old.

I don’t like to dwell on where my story began, because it started in a very dark, lonely place.

What I do know is that I was found abandoned in Greece near a riverbank. I was nothing but skin and bones, weighing a heartbreaking 9kg. I was cold, starving, and terrified. But the kind people who saved me gave me a name that changed my destiny: Promise. It was a vow that I would never be hungry, cold, or unloved again.
And I held onto that vow with everything I had.

Look at me now! I have nearly doubled my weight to a sleek 16kg. The rescue aunties call me a “pocket-sized” German Shorthaired Pointer. I might be smaller than your average GSP boy, but my heart is absolutely massive, and my tail hasn’t stopped wagging since the day I was saved.
I survived the unthinkable, and I came out the other side with nothing but softness in my soul. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I am a happy-go-lucky boy who welcomes everyone into my world, totally unphased by traffic or noise, and I want nothing more than to be your constant shadow.

I have settled into indoor life beautifully. I am fully house-trained, I can be left alone contentedly for up to two hours, and I never chew things I shouldn’t – though I do have a funny habit of “borrowing” blankets to build myself the perfect cosy nest!

I love adventures. I run like the wind in secure dog parks, and I absolutely love exploring the beach on a long line. If you put me on a waist harness or a dual-clip lead, I walk beautifully. I am also completely food-orientated – if you have a licky mat, a Kong, or a tasty treat, I am your most eager student.

But as much as I have healed my body, my mind still carries a few heavy reminders of the trauma I endured before I was saved.

Because I once knew true starvation, meal times and walk times can be exciting for me. I can get a little vocal and wound up that I bark in a very unique, high-pitched voice because I just can’t contain my anticipation.

I also carry some deep-seated worries about my past. I am very protective of my hindquarters; I will sometimes get anxious at myself when being groomed, and if a man approaches my back end, I get this concerned out of fear. Because of this, I have also occasionally guarded high-value items like socks from the man of the house. I have never done this with women or children, which makes my friends think a man was unkind to me in my past life.

Right now, I am living with a lovely family, but my excitement and sensitivities are clashing with their resident dog, Willow, who has her own additional needs. Our mixed signals are making each other anxious, and it’s just not fair on either of us. Through absolutely no fault of my own, I need to find a new chapter.

My current mum loves me dearly and knows I am a truly lovely boy, but I need a very specific home to help me cross the finish line.

I would thrive as an only dog, or living with a supremely confident, calm, and steady dog who won’t feed into my excitement (I get along perfectly with the old Golden Retriever in my current home!).

Because of my back-end sensitivities, I need an understanding, patient home with adult children, and a family who will understand my boundaries, especially the men in the house. I also have a classic pointer fixation with birds, so a secure garden is a must for my bird-watching hobbies! I am good with cats, though I prefer them not to jump on the sofa next to me when I’m snuggling.

I have survived the hardest times, and I have so much love stored up from the years I was alone. If you are patient, calm, and ready to show me that the world is a safe place, I promise to be the most devoted lap dog and professional snuggler you could ever dream of.

I’m Promise. The boy who refused to give up.

Could you be the one to help me keep my promise forever?
