Hello there! My name is Rufus. I am a Pointer with a story that shows just how resilient a dogs heart can be. You might remember my journey. ”I was left behind in Portugal when my previous owners sold their house, but I was saved, brought to the UK, and promised a “happy ever after” where I would never be forgotten again.

I have been in the UK for three months now, and I have proven myself to be an absolute treasure. However, my wonderful family and the rescue have realised that my current environment isn’t quite the right fit for me. We are partnering to find me the true “final piece of my puzzle”a quieter, rural home where I can fully relax.

A Total Cuddle Bug: My favourite thing in the world is being close to my humans. I am incredibly sweet, affectionate, and always ready to curl up next to you on the sofa or bed for a snuggle.
Clever & Self-Sufficient: I am brilliant at keeping myself entertained! Give me a snuffle mat or hide some tasty treats around the room for me to find, and I am in absolute heaven.
Young at Heart: Don’t let the “9” fool you! I am active, happy, and I’ve still got plenty of spring in my step.
Healthy & Athletic: I’m a compact Pointer who has blossomed into a fit ~22kg with a strong heart and a great bill of health!
A Travel Star: I am an absolute dream in the car—I pop straight onto my bed and settle down instantly for long journeys!
Super Smart: I have great house manners, sleep soundly through the night, and I’ve even learned to sit and “stay” politely for my meals!

🏡Why I Need a Change of Scenery (My Street-Walking Struggles)

I am currently living in a busy residential housing estate in Cambridgeshire, and to be honest, the big, bustling world of pavement walks has been a bit of a sensory overload for my mature brain.
Before coming to the UK, I had never really walked on a lead or lived in a busy neighborhood. When I am out on my lead and see other dogs, the excitement gets the better of me. Please know this isn’t aggression at all! It is simply a sensitive boy feeling overwhelmed by too much happening at once. When given time and quiet space to observe, I am learning to process things much more calmly.

❤️My Relationship with Other Dogs
I actually really like other dogs!
Back in Portugal, I coexisted beautifully with them.
Here in the UK, my family has been taking me to secure, enclosed play fields with their friends’ dogs. I absolutely love these playdates! I am even learning how to play with other dogs – something completely new and wonderful for me.

🥰What My Perfect “Forever Safe” Home Looks Like

To help me truly thrive and live a stress-free life, I am looking for a home that offers:

A Rural or Semi-Rural Location: A quiet setting away from the hustle and bustle of busy housing estates, town streets, and heavy pavement traffic.
A Secure Garden: Where I can sniff, play, and stretch my athletic legs without the pressure of daily lead walks.
Access to Quiet Spaces: An environment where street walking on a lead isn’t a daily necessity, and where I can enjoy nature at a peaceful pace.
Patience and Understanding: A family who knows that with time and quiet surroundings, I may get more comfortable on the lead, but who is happy to let me just enjoy my retirement without any pressure (and who will give me my favorite bedtime cheese KONG!).

I am a “sweet soul” who has survived so much, and I have so much love left to give.
