Hi… my name is Finlay, but my friends call me Finn 🐾
I’m a bit of a shy boy when we first meet. The world hasn’t always been very kind to me, so I like to take things slowly. But if you give me a little time, a soft voice, and a gentle heart… I promise I’ll show you who I really am.
I’m staying with my wonderful foster hero, Vesna, and I’ve quickly become a “velcro dog” I love to be right by your side. I’ve even started a career as a part-time “heel-nudger” and “trip hazard” because I just want to follow you everywhere! I’m a very clever boy; my foster mummy says she can practically see the cogs whirring when I’m learning new things. I’ve recently helped sell a greenhouse and even helped choose a new car. I was an absolute gentleman at the dealership!
A few things to know about me:
A Brave Explorer: I’m getting braver every day. I used to be terrified of the TV, but now I’m a total film buff! I especially love movies with dogs in them. I even give a big sigh of disappointment when the dogs leave the screen and it’s just humans again. I’m also becoming a town-centre pro; I recently handled the busy streets of Tavistock like a champ, meeting new dogs on narrow pavements with perfect manners.
The Perfect Passenger: I am impeccable in the car! I love looking out the window and I wait patiently to be asked before jumping out. I recently visited a butcher’s shop car park in Saltash – it blew my mind that I couldn’t go in, but I stayed very well-behaved while I waited!
Outdoor Adventures: I love being on “Border Patrol” in the garden. I’ve started practicing my recall in secure fields, and even with distractions like donkeys, peacocks, and traffic noise, I’m doing really well for a beginner. On my walks, I’ve met all sorts of friends – from Bedlington Terriers to three giant Great Danes and I take it all in my stride.
Home Life: I am a clean boy and I’m learning that being home alone for a little while is okay – my foster family left me for half an hour recently and I was “as gold as gold.” I’m also becoming quite the cuddle bug; I love getting big cuddles from my foster daddy, Chris. I’ve even conquered my fear of the kitchen sofa! It’s right near the noise of the building site traffic which usually bothers me, but I’m learning to brave the noise for a good napette. I still like to rag my blanket when I get a bit frustrated, but I’m learning to choose a reward from my treat box instead!
Cats? I see cats on my walks and I’m very curious and non-reactive, though I haven’t lived with one in a house yet.
Doggy Friends: I really need a home with another dog. I find so much comfort in the company of other furry friends to help me learn the ropes and provide that “comfort play” I crave.
My journey started in Greece, where I was very frightened. A huge thank you to Lorna, who sat with me for days to build my trust, and to Phil and Francis for the long drive to my foster home. Because of them, I know now that humans can be loving. I’ve settled in so well that I now sleep right through the night.
What I dream of is a calm, patient home with a garden to patrol and a furry sibling to play with. If you choose me, I’ll give you my whole heart – and stay very close to your heels to make sure you’re never lonely!
