My Story

My name is Peter… and I’ve been waiting a long time for someone like you.

I was found wandering the streets of Alanya, Turkey – a young dog with a big heart and nowhere to call home. I was taken in by the kind people at Strays of Alanya, and I have lived in the shelter ever since.

That’s been over two years now. Two years of waking up in an enclosure, other dogs beside me, the sounds of horses and donkeys drifting in from the field next door. Two years of watching the world carry on, of hoping that one day, someone would stop and choose me.

But I am not a sad dog – not really. I have grown up surrounded by animals and open space, and I have learned to make the best of it. I share my home with other dogs, and I have never once shown aggression or dominance toward any of them. The equine field sits alongside my enclosure, and the horses and donkeys there hold absolutely no fear for me – I am well and truly a big animal kind of dog.

I’ve been doing some extra learning lately, and the updates are wonderful! We have some lovely new videos of me out and about on my lead; I am walking beautifully and really getting the hang of it. I’ve even been practicing my manners and learning how to ‘sit’! Perhaps most excitingly, I’ve been tested with cats and I was totally chilled around them, so I can happily be homed with pussy cats. 😻

I walk well on the lead, and when I was taken out recently, I didn’t bat an eyelid at passing cars or motorbikes. I am friendly with the humans I meet – if a little shy at first – and I have never shown a single sign of aggression or behavioural problems. Not once. I am, as those who know me will tell you, one of the good ones.

But I am a Pointer. I am young. I am energetic. And my spirit is quietly waiting for somewhere to let it loose. I dream of proper walks. Of a garden to run in. Of a sofa to sink into at the end of the day, beside a family who chose me and brought me home.

Health & Travel

The good news? I am completely ready. My vaccinations are up to date, my titre test is done, and my animal health certificate is in order. I have been tested for both Leishmaniasis and Brucellosis  – both negative. I am neutered, I am healthy, and I could be with you in early May.

All of my veterinary costs have been lovingly self-funded by my rescuers. The only thing standing between me and you is the journey –  and even some of that will be taken care of.

I don’t know exactly what a home feels like yet – a warm bed, a name called with love, a lead clipped on for a walk just for the joy of it – but something tells me I would take to it very quickly indeed.

I am Peter. I am three years old. I have been waiting long enough. Could that home be yours? 🐾
