💙 Rolo’s Story: Waiting Patiently for My Turn

My life right now is a lonely one. I belong to an elderly man who used to take me hunting, but he can no longer walk. Now, I spend 90% of my time completely alone, living in a pen on a piece of land outside the village. My owner’s daughter-in-law feels very sorry for me and visits whenever she can to feed me and let me out, but I am incredibly lonely and frustrated. I have so much love to give, yet I spend my days just waiting.

But hope is on the horizon! A wonderful volunteer named Phil from a local animal association has started visiting me a few times a week to take me on walks. Phil is highly experienced with rescue dogs, and his opening statement about me says it all: “If I could have this dog, I would absolutely have him in a heartbeat.” I am so ready to swap this lonely pen for a family of my very own.

✨ The Real Me: Life on the Walks

Because Phil takes me out regularly, we already know a lot about what a superstar I am out in the real world:

An Absolute Social Butterfly: I adore human company! Phil takes me to outdoor cafes, and though I get a little excited at first, I soon calm right down. I absolutely love it when people come up to stroke me – the more attention, the better!

Unfazed by the World: When we walk through the town, traffic noise, motorbikes, and cars don’t bother me at all. The only things that make me a little nervous are big lorries squeezing through the narrow streets, but if you sit me down and reassure me, I’m absolutely fine.

An Exemplary Gentleman: Out on my walks, we regularly cross paths with goat shepherds. Their heavy-duty Spanish Mastin guard dogs can be very protective and confrontational, but I don’t let them phase me at all! I also pass a gate with a very vocal, aggressive Labrador, and I just ignore him completely. Whether it’s livestock, other dogs, or stray cats, I’m just calmly curious with zero drive to chase.

A Very Fast Learner: Phil has been working on my basic commands using my absolute favourite  motivator: frankfurters! I am so clever that I now automatically sit in the exact spots where Phil has previously asked me to. I have excellent recall inside my enclosed area and respond beautifully to my name and a little whistle.

🏡 What I Need in My Forever Home

I have spent almost my entire life in a pen, so I need a family who will guide me gently as I transition into becoming a your loving house pet. I am a very clever boy and quickly get the hang of new experiences – I reckon I’m going to love having my own cozy bed and a spot on your sofa🤗

Pointer Awareness: I am a true Pointer- energetic, and a little bit bouncy when I first see you! I am a young just turned 6-year-old at heart and would love a family who can give me active walks and ongoing training.

Lead & Off-Lead Training: I am very obliging on the lead. I pull a bit at first out of pure excitement, but I soon settle down. Because I’ve never been off-lead in an open space, my new family will need to practice my recall in a secure area first until we know my “Bird Dog” nose won’t take over!

Car Travel Ready: I am an excellent passenger. I travel beautifully in the boot with a dog guard, causing no trouble at all.

A Patient Welcome: Everything about me is positive, and Phil says there isn’t a single thing about my behaviour that concerns him. I just need a chance to show you what a loyal, affectionate companion I can be.
