Woody

I am looking for my forever home. Can you help me?

Age
10 Years (DOB 31/12/2015)

Sex
Male

Location
in UK Foster

House trained?
Doing brilliantly! He has pretty much grasped his house training and is now starting to "ask" to go out when he needs a wee.

Can I live with other dogs?
Yes! He would likely thrive in a home with another dog to help him settle. He is very social and has a best friend in Bailey the Cavapoo.

Can I live with cats?
Yes. Woody recently met a dog-savvy cat in the street and simply turned away—he has no interest in chasing! However, he does have a bit of a prey drive for birds and pheasants when out and about.

Can I live with children?
Quiet, older children preferred due to his need for a calm environment.

Personality
The "Pocket Pointer": A petite, "velcro" senior who loves company, follows his humans everywhere, and is rediscovering his zest for life.

💙 Woody’s Story: A New Chapter Begins

I’ve officially traded the Spanish streets for the comforts of a UK foster home, and my foster mummy, Val, says I am a total heart-melter! I’ve spent my first few weeks catching up on much-needed sleep and discovering the wonders of a full food bowl.

While I’ve clearly had a tough start, my true personality is shining through. I am becoming a real “velcro dog,” following my foster mummy everywhere because I just love being near people. I’ve started giving out regular tail wags and I’ve even reached a big milestone: I now trust my foster mummy enough to demand head fusses by giving her a nudge with my snoot!

✨ The Real Me: Life in Foster Care

Val has been helping me find my feet, and we are learning so much about what makes me happy:

  • The “Pocket” Pointer: I am quite a petite boy compared to most Pointers—measuring only 21 inches to the shoulder. My foster mummy calls me a “Pocket Pointer,” which makes me extra endearing and much easier to lift in and out of the car!

  • Brave Adventures: I am learning to be brave on my walks. While traffic and cyclists still make me a bit nervous, I am much more relaxed on a long lead. I’ve started exploring fields where I can air-scent for pheasants, though my recall is still a bit “selective” if I find a very interesting smell!

  • Tuned In & Curious: I am very tuned in to my humans when we walk together. Back at home, I’m not bothered by the vacuum or dishwasher, though because of my early cataracts, I can be a bit clumsy and sometimes bump into things—it’s all part of my senior charm!

  • A Social Soul: I really enjoy the company of other dogs and would love a home with a furry sibling to keep me confident. I even met a cat recently and was a total gentleman, though I do enjoy watching the blackbirds in the garden!

  • The Neighbourhood Watch: My favourite pastime is standing on the doorstep or looking out the window, watching the world go by. I feel safest when my person is home with me, so I’d love a family where someone is around most of the day. I’m so dedicated to my humans that I’ll even curl up for a nap on the bathmat while you’re in the shower just to be close!

🏡 What I Need in My Forever Home

Because of my age and my “worries” about busy environments, I’m looking for a very specific kind of sanctuary:

  • A Quiet Haven: I need a home in a peaceful, rural, or semi-rural area. I love quiet morning strolls where I can sniff the air and enjoy the scenery without too much stress. I’ve also officially decided that I am a “fair-weather” dog—I’m not a fan of the cold rain and might need a little tempting to leave my warm bed on a drizzly morning!

  • A Patient Heart: I’m a “resourceful survivor.” Having spent time on the streets, I’m a bit of a food detective in the kitchen! I’m learning that my bowl will always be full now, but I need a family who will be patient while I learn the ropes of home life.

  • Tender Loving Care: I’ve had my “top-to-toe” vet check. I have immature cataracts, very worn teeth, and a minor Grade 1 heart murmur. I also have a “wonky” walk in my back legs, so I’m taking some medicine (Loxicam) to keep me comfy. I don’t need long hikes—just short, gentle strolls.

I am a sensitive, noble boy who has been through so much. All I want now is a quiet life, a window to look out of, and a family who will never let me go.

Love and gentle Pointer nudges,

Woody x
