Hi, I’m Zena — and I’ve been waiting just for you.

They say I’m a small red setter cross,  I would come up to your knee level, but I spend so much time with the pointers here at the sanctuary that sometimes… I wish I was one. They’re all heading off to their forever homes soon — flying away to new lives in just two months — and I’ll be the only one left behind.

You see, I’m not a pointer. But oh, how I wish I could be, just so someone would choose me too. I mean… I ‘feel’ pointer most days of the week… I even asked my foster mum if she could make me a pointer costume — something to help me look the part, just a little more like the dogs that always get picked. I know it’s a bit silly, but that’s how much I want a chance. That’s how much I want you.

I’m only one years old, but I’ve already learned how much it means to be seen, to be wanted. I’ve got so much love to give — the kind that’s gentle and unconditional. I’m great with other dogs (especially my pointer pals), I get along with cats, and I adore little people too. One special four-year-old, Leo, visits the sanctuary often — and I just melt for him. I’d be the perfect buddy for your kids, your pets, your whole family.

But here’s the thing… the sanctuary is closing down in just four months. That means my time is running out. I need to find my forever family before then, and I need to get my seat on that plane — the one taking all the lucky ones to their new lives. I want to be one of the lucky ones too.

I may not be a pointer, but I’m Zena — a little dog with a big heart, a soft soul, and a deep wish to belong. I’ve waited a year for someone to see me, really see me, and say: “That’s our special girl.”

So here I am. Hoping. Dreaming. Loving, always.

Just look at my sweet pictures and pretend and think ‘small and red fluffy eared pointer’.  Lorna is getting my pointer fancy dress costume ready for me in the meantime…
